T-Hunt Information

Latest News

The next T-Hunt, June 20th, will be hosted by Larry, KG7NEP and Dan, KM7AKK at Desert Bloom Park.  It’s just south of the 215 with easy access from both Las Vegas and Henderson. To get to the park take the 215 and exit on Windmill, go West on Windmill, turn South on Maryland Parkway and the park will be on the right in about ¼ to ½ mile depending on which parking lot you choose. It is a big park with lots of shade for June’s hunt. We will hide 3 transmitters including the 1watt Baofeng which we are in the process of “de-tuning” to get the power down using a stubby cheap antenna from Amazon.

We encourage people with older kids and/or grandchildren to bring them along to peak their interest in Ham radio; there is a play area nearby as an added incentive. Due to summer heat, we will meet at 8 am for coffee, doughnuts, water and conversation; the hunt starts at 8:30 am

Please join in on the fun.

General Information

Las Vegas Transmitter Hunters get together on the 3rd Saturday of every month at a local park for a non-sponsored transmitter hunt (T-Hunt). The T-Hunts are conducted alternately by Ron, KJ7PAQ and Tom, KB7HTA. The entire T-Hunt takes place at a park and other than driving to and from the park; there is no driving involved, all on foot. The transmitter(s) are hidden somewhere within the bounds of the park, and it is left to the hunters using what ever equipment they may have available to track them down. The T-Hunt starts promptly at 9 am, so you may want to get there around 8:30 am, enjoy some coffee and doughnuts, and prepare for the hunt. The winner is determined by how long it takes a hunter to return to the starting point with photo(s) of the transmitter(s) or code(s). If there is more than one transmitter, they may be tracked/found in any order. The frequencies are 146.565 (T0), 146.575 (T1), 146.585 (T2) and 146.595 (T3). About a week before the T-Hunt, additional information about the hunt will be posted here, such as the name of the park, updated start time and a map with the meeting location.
